Beech Thicket Build

2023

A hands-on short course aimed at teaching students to measure, design and make all sorts of things with small diameter beech trees.

Working with small diameter beech trees provided by out partners at Haliburton Forest, this ten day design-build course was offered to undergraduate and graduate students at the Daniels Faculty (UofT).

On the first day, each student made their own wood mallet. From here they began to work in small groups on several small seating objects. For the second week, four groups worked together to produce ambitious larger pieces that were exhibited in the Daniels Commons over the summer.
