Tree Relations

2024
A growing research and drawing project that maps out the evolutionary relationships of tree species alongside notes on the uses of their wood.

The thinking behind Tree Relations is something that has been on my mind for a long time. While today we work commonly with just a few species of wood, historically, many more had use and value. In wanting to pursue contemporary work with many more species of tree, it becomes important to understand the best properties and characteristics of as many as possible.
These drawings were first exhibited at the Cooper Union, and a limited edition A2 penplotted version is available for sale on the Using Trees Shop.
The evolutionary information underlying this work is sourced from LifeMap.
